Did You Know…?

Michelia figo

This evergreen, medium-sized shrub does not attract much attention until it blooms and people nearby start looking for the ripe bananas that they can smell, only to find that the intense banana fragrance originates from the inch long pale yellow flowers that are hidden among the leaves. This plant will grow in the Sacramento area of California. It blooms in the late spring and early summer months here in the Garden.
