Our Hale Mala Pua (Garden Home) is the perfect place for family and friends to gather or for a romantic getaway on the stunning Hamakua Coast. This spacious plantation house (2,200 square feet) is located just north of Hilo in the lush and tropical environment of World Botanical Gardens in Hakalau. With 2 Bedrooms, 2 1/2 Bathrooms, Gourmet Kitchen with enormous refrigerator/ freezer , Living Room & Covered Lanai with ocean views. The home has 2 Master Suites, which is as perfect for a couple on a romantic trip, a family with kids or anybody just longing for privacy. Take Our Guided Horticultural Tour…
On our exquisite 2-hour walking tour, one of our horticultural experts will point out fascinating facts about the beautiful flowers and plants in our extensive botanical collection and answer questions about tropical plants.
Your horticultural guide will first lead you to a spectacular view of Kamaee Falls, proclaimed to be one of Hawaii’s most beautiful and pristine waterfalls. This location is a must stop for both novice and professional photographers alike.
From there, you will be taking an unhurried stroll through our tropical Rainforest Trail. Watch other guests zipping high in the forest canopy and listen as our experts explain the many and varied uses of tropical plants, allowing you to smell the flowers and taste some of the ripe fruit. Continuing down the trail, you will encounter a quiet, serene, natural spring-fed stream lined by many of Hawaii’s unique plants and trees.
At the halfway point of your tour, you have the option to add a delicious lunch. Prepared and served for our guests, this unique option must be reserved in advance. Everyone will be able to partake in dessert – a sampling of fresh fruit from our own gardens.
Following the fruit and refreshment break, the group will proceed to our final destination, the magnificent Rainbow Walk. This portion of the tour meanders along a paved walkway surrounded by thousands of tropical plants.

Explore Our Rainbow Walk…
Adjacent to the gardens entrance is the Rainbow Walk, in which you can view a profusion of tropical trees, shrubs and perennial plants and even a cactus garden. More than a quarter mile of paved pathways wind through the acres of plants in the Rainbow Walk, but visitors are encouraged to meander off the walkways for a closer look or to take pictures.
In this area, you can see blooming anthuriums, azaleas, bougainvillea, bromeliads, crinums, gingers, heliconias, hibiscus, and many other tropical flowering perennials, ferns, shrubs, and trees.
Many varieties of orchids festoon the plants in the Rainbow Walk or cling to the Orchid Wall with new blooms popping out almost every day. Orchids may be near your feet on a stump, peeping out from a pile of logs or hiding on a low-growing bush. They’re in almost every tree, living anywhere from a few feet off the ground to high in the canopy. The orchids come in almost every color from white to almost black. Many are very fragrant and one even smells like chocolate! See cattleyas, dendrobiums, phalaenopsis, vandas, and other species often with several varieties on the same tree.

Visit Our Maze For All Ages…
Adjacent to the Rainbow Walk is our Maze For All Ages, the world’s second largest permanently planted maze. Covering an area more than the size of a football field, it consists of thousands of mock orange bushes planted in a regular array of hedge work.
With lots of false turns and only one correct path, this maze is fun for young and old alike. The hedge is kept to a height of five feet, so as to allow adults to see over the hedges if necessary, but still allow everyone to wander the paths to find their way to the only correct exit.

This tour is the first time Segwaynian. The tour offer instruction and a short ride down the path of kings, Alii drive. A perfect way to be introduced to the Segway P/T Cruiser. This tour is 30 Mins.
Old Kona Town Tour
The Old Kona Town Tour is the perfect way to see Kona town and learn some fun fact and history while gliding along on your Segway Personal Transporter. The tour starts at the historical Kona Inn and continues downs Alii drive, gliding by Hulihe’e Palace, Moku’aikaua Church and Ahu’ena Heiau, the residents of Kamehameha I. until his death in 1819. The tour continues down Alii Drive to St. Michael Church, Waiaha Beach Park (Honis) and back to The Kona Inn. This tour is 1 hour.
Historical Kona Town Tour
The Kona Historical Tour offers the beginner and novice alike a chance to glide threw Kona experiencing the history and the mana that made Old Kona Town. The tour starts at The Kona Inn and glides down Alii drive to Hulihe’e Palace , Moku’aikaua Church, Kamakahonu , White Sands Beach, and Ku’emanu Heiau, which was dedicated to the sport of surfing. Visit ancient stone walls erected by ancient residents of Hawaii who were known for their overnight feats of architectural engineering called Menehunes. As we glide down Kona coast line, you will have a chance to take in the breath taking vistas that make Hawaii’s beaches world famous. This tour is 2 hours.

Experience Our Arboretum…
Across from the Rainbow Walk is the Arboretum. This section is bordered by a twin row of gigantic “Cook Island Pines”, so named for the islands discovered on Captain Cook’s voyages. a driveway lined with majestic Royal Palms and the Hanapueo Stream. It covers several acres and includes large numbers of specimens, especially trees that produce flowers, fruits and nuts. These include abiu, several species of bananas, Brazilian cherries, breadfruit, cashew, cinnamon, citrus, jack fruit, longan, lychee, macadamia, miracle fruit, ohia, palms of many types, papaya, paradise nuts, and sapote to name just a few.
Bird of paradise, bougainvillea, gingers, heliconias, hibiscus, orchids, plumeria and many other plants bloom throughout the arboretum.
Large areas of grass and hand-decorated tables set in amongst the trees allow you to relax and enjoy views of the gardens or the ocean while eating your picnic lunch or just relaxing on the greensward. During the winter, you can watch humpback whales playing in the ocean while you enjoy your picnic.
